Five Things To Consider When Buying A Rotary Trimmer
When you need to cut paper and require a perfectly straight cut, a rotary trimmer is a fantastic choice. Rotary trimmers can produce a perfect cut and they're often capable of cutting a small stack of paper at one time. They're also easy to use. If you'd like to add one of these devices to your office, here are five things to consider when buying one.
- Choose your cutting length. You will want to think about the length of your documents when buying a trimmer. The majority of rotary trimmers have a cutting length of 9 or 12 inches, which is fine if you're going to be working with paper that's letter-sized (8.5" x 11") or smaller. If you anticipate cutting paper that's more than 12 inches long, you'll need a bigger trimmer.
- Thank about the cutting capacity. Another important consideration is how many sheets you want to be able to trim at once. Rotary trimmers generally can't cut as much a guillotine paper cutter and thus, are better for smaller quantities of paper, such as 5 to 30 sheets at a time. So if you're going to need to cut stacks of paper, a guillotine cutter would be a better choice. However, if you're just going to do occasional trimming, a rotary trimmer is a wise investment.
- Look for durable construction. Next, you'll want to choose a cutter that's well-made. Many of the smaller ones have plastic components, which makes them lightweight and portable. However, it also means they won't last as long as a cutter that has metal parts. Really good devices will have a metal bar on which the blade can slide up and down, and may even have a metal base that's been imprinted with alignment guides and also has a paper clamp. Simply put, the more well-made a product is, the better it will cut. So look for one that's durably constructed.
- What special features appeal to you, if any? Some cutters have features that make them stand out and also make using them easier. For example, there are cutters which can use specialty blades that allow you to score and perforate your paper as well as create wavy cuts. Frequently, these types of cutters have a rotary dial that allow you to use different types of blades without swapping them out. Also, there are devices that have lasers and allow you to get the most precise cut possible. Finally, there are some cutters that can be installed on a wall so you can cut vertically. (These devices are ideal for very large items, such as banners.) If any of these features appeal to you, be sure to look for them when selecting your new cutter.
- Choose a good brand. Finally, be sure to choose a product from a reputable manufacturer so you get the best product for your money. Some brands to keep an eye out for are Dahle, Swingline, Akiles, and Fellowes
If you think about these five things when selecting your rotary trimmer, you'll definitely choose the right one for all of your cutting needs. Start shopping today!
