is obsidian a precious or semi precious stone found in large quantities?
can it be found in scotland ( we have extinct volcano's)
how easily is it worked?
is it more common than jet?
Obsidian isn't precious but can be cut and polished into decorative stones for jewellery. It's much more common than jet and you'll find quite a lot in Bonny Scotland.
It's quite easy to work after some experience.
One of my friends made an obsidian reflecting telescope mirror instead of using glass..
As well as old extinct volcanoes, you also have the oldest known rocks sticking out of the ground anywhere on Earth...The Lewisian Gneiss, named for the Isle of Lewis.....links coming

Second paragraph. Obsidian is hard to grind and polish compared to glass as any glassy rock is, but has been used for a few years now for high quality mirrors..... Glass is quite soft on the Moh scale.
